Lately I have had some Facebook friends and others recommend various food supplements. One seeming most popular being a supplement Shake/drink. I am posting today to share my history with food supplement drinks, so they are aware of the reasoning for my passing on what sounds like a great weight loss tool. Or is it? Have the studies been done by the true scientists? Meaning those that are really educated in these fields. The one shake drink with the most popularity on Facebook has not been approved by the FDA. Of course I checked it out, as I am a food snob. I want to be sure I put the right gas in MY car! I am still learning and have learned quite a bit in the past four years. I wish I had done this years ago.
In my teen years I was a flag girl, with big thighs! We had to wear very short skirts. So my mission was to lose those big thighs fast, during the summer months before my senior year and putting on those skirts again. So I found a weight lose product that was a simple shake. I drank it with diet root beer. I could also have salads. I lost 30 pounds, had smaller thighs and got compliments. Little did I know this was the beginning of my journey in taking the wrong type of product, which in turn helped lead me to becoming the biggest I have ever been in my life. A tight size 24, and 260 pounds.
I eventually gained back the 30 pounds, who wants to drink a shake for the rest of their lives? So this lead me on to the next diet craze. Which I proceeded to do for the next 26 years of my life.
The diet drink that I first started with was later linked to people losing their gallbladders. I lost my gallbladder four years after using that product.
I believe that it is easier to look for the quick fix. Ways to help us lose for the upcoming wedding, the reunions, and the short skirt. I never once thought maybe I should learn what really feeds my body. How to give my body the nutrients it needs with blueberries, salmon and spinach. I never realized I was starving my body. I didn't understand synthetic vitamins, carcinegens, sucralose, soy (the modified type), gelatin, range feed verse corn feed, pesticides, GMO, etc. I could write a book, but lets leave that to the experts like Michael Pollan.
So I call myself a food snob, because I am always looking to find the best ways to feed my body and keep it healthy. I have found two ways and my health history of late has proved them tried and true. Eat as much organically grown foods as possible - they have the most nutrients. Why starve your body, you will just want to eat more. And exercise your body. I found the best calorie burn for my buck is using kettlebells. But I recommend getting the best trainers - HKC/RKC! Of course this is a totally different blog!
Eat the best lean meats. And I am not saying stay away from beef. I eat beef. Grass feed beef of course. I have been eating highlander steer. No growth implants, USDA inspected. I actually have a write up on my beef. Did it cost me? Yes! But so do supplements. Do I eat a lot of it, no - it is freaking expensive! The sirloin steak was $9.00 a pound. Can I pay for that? Can I buy a chi tea latte at $5.00 a pop! Can I buy a 12 pack case of soda at $4.00 a case. Can I buy a blizzard at $3.00? Do these items feed me???? Will I be able to pay the doctor bills when I find out I have one of the various diseases that are commonly connected with eating poorly?
We have so many tools and ways to search - google - ways to learn, do we use them well? I love and enjoy my facebook friends, but I will always look into anything related to food, AS I AM A FOOD SNOB.

Why workout with kettlebells
This first class I went to learn how to swing a kettlebell was free. I was already spending a lot on my fitness routines and was happy to find one for free. I was hooked after my first class. I really liked at the time cardio type workouts, but was told I needed to do some type of strength training. So I was extremely happy when I realized that this class incorporated both cardio and strength training. So when I was told if I wanted to learn more than the basics that it would be an extra monthly fee. I was ready to sign-up, and eventually dropped some of my other activities.
So I added kettlebells to my exercise routine in my passage to lose weight. I was amazed at how much faster my weight was coming off. I had been struggling to lose and had some added stress in my life. Working with kettlebells helped me with both.
I have now been using the kettlebells for about two and half years. The following is a list of why I will never stop using kettlebells:
I have lost a total of 120 pounds.
I no longer need a inhaler for asthma.
I am stronger than I ever have been - even in my 20's.
I got certified as an HKC.
Someone asked me if I had a tummy tuck, since my abs looked so good to them and they knew I had lost a lot of weight - and I have not had any surgeries to tuck anything!
When I changed my term life insurance to full life insurance, I had to have a new physical as the one done before was over 19 years old. My test came back at the highest rating possible, so they gave me $30,000 more in coverage. Woot! Woot!
